SENTIMENTAL LIGHTNING
presented at Galeria La Cometa
Bogotá, Colombia
PROJECT: Personal Work
YEAR: 2021
Sentimental Lightning unfolds as a quiet yet charged meditation on humanity’s conflicted relationship with the natural world. Presented at Galería La Cometa in Bogotá and conceived as a work in support of the Amazonian rainforest, the painting centers on a solitary figure whose composed, almost ceremonial gesture contrasts with the tension embedded in her surroundings. Dressed in a Marine Serre garment that merges futurism and utility, she embodies a generation poised between escape and responsibility, caught in the desire to abandon a wounded planet rather than fully commit to its care. The vegetation that frames her appears lush yet unsettled, suggesting an ecosystem pushed toward toxicity and exhaustion by human intervention. Through this uneasy harmony of body, fashion, and landscape, the work reflects on preservation, displacement, and the dangerous illusion that survival can be outsourced to elsewhere, even as the living world quietly deteriorates.
